Selden Furlex Jib Furling System Kit
The world's best-selling jib furling system. The Selden Furlex has been tried and tested for decades on board all kinds of sailing boats in all conditions. The 4th generation is an evolution of this proven design. The complete kit includes everything required for installation including a new forestay, furling line and stanchion guides. Detailed instructions are provided for a simple and quick installation. See the installation video at the bottom of the page.
- The new design luff extrusion consists of 2400 mm sections connected with an aluminium inner joining sleeve and a stainless-steel connecting plate. The joining sleeve transmits the torque within the extrusions, and the connecting plates keep the sections together with a slight gap between them.
This way chafe is avoided on both the extrusions and the sail. Full length inserts centre and insulate the forestay wire enabling the extrusion to rotate evenly around the wire. The furling resistance is reduced and chafe between the wire and the extrusion is eliminated. The new luff extrusion features the Aero Groove system which reduces drag and creates improved flow over the luff extrusion and consequently, the sail. The luff extrusion features a twin groove ideal for hoisting a second headsail for wing on wing downwind sailing. - Ball bearings and ball bearing races made from marine grade stainless steel. Seldén’s patented load distributor for Furlex 204S and 304S makes for low furling resistance and durability. This concept was launched in 1983 and it still performs flawlessly today. The halyard swivel for Furlex 104S and 404S features stainless ball bearings. The load is centered by the attachment of the Dyneema® lashing.
- The sail feeder is marine grade stainless steel with rounded edges which avoid any damage or chafe to the sail. A composite insert eliminates corrosion between the stainless steel and aluminium foil.
- The twin-groove luff extrusion and the split drum allow the racing sailor to quickly convert the Furlex for racing.
- The tack swivel has the ’free-turn’ feature which allows the tack to swivel during the first turn of the furler, furling the upper sections of the sail first ensuring better sail performance when reefed. it also reduces the effort needed to furl that first turn. The new tack ring design with a smaller diameter and the smaller shackle also reduce reduces the initial furling resistance.
- The new drum design makes greater use of modern composite material means 8% overall weight reduction which improves the
sailing performance. - The 4th generation Furlex now features two sets of stainless ball bearings and one additional set of roller bearings for low friction and low lateral deflection.
Available with a Sta-Lok swageless terminal which enables easy exact measurement during installation or with a Sta-Lok swageless terminal and built in rigging screw which also allows fine tuning and rig adjustments after installation.
