Selden Rodkicker Rigid Vang
A Seldén Rodkicker facilitates sail handling when reefing, preventing the boom from dropping into the cockpit or onto the coach roof. When fitted with an an optional Seldén gas spring, the boom lifts when the kicking strap is released, excellent for trimming the main in light air and avoiding the use of a topping lift. The Seldén Rodkicker also doubles the purchase of your kicking strap when the line is led back to the cockpit or alternatively a block and tackle can be added for easy operation from either side of the boom.
1. Easy operation from either side of the boom.
The extended block attachment point keeps the block away from the extrusion enabling the block to turn, allowing operation from either side of the boom. Blocks and lines not included.
2. Optional gas spring kit.
The Rodkicker can be fitted with an optional integral gas spring. This lifts the boom when the kicking strap is released, opening the leech of the sail. A Rodkicker with a gas spring replaces the topping lift, making reefing fast and simple. The gas spring is easily retrofitted to a Rodkicker that does not have a spring or purchased seperately with a new Selden Rodkicker. See Selden Rodkicker Spare Parts & Accesories.
3. Hard anodised aluminium extrusion with polymer slide bushings.
The inner extrusion end plug acts as an low friction bushing and avoids metal-to-metal contact. The upper bushing also acts as an elastic buffer to absorb the shock when the kicker reaches its bottom limit.
4. End fitting with enclosed sheave
The rounded end-fitting, with enclosed sheave and recessed split pin, is designed to avoid snagging sails or crew and the cable/line is routed inside the Rodkicker for an elegant finish.

Easily installed
Choosing the correct Rodkicker is based mainly on the righting moment of the yacht (approximately proportional to displacement), type of rig and boom and boom height XBH.
