Remoran PR-01 Automatic Protection Relay
The Remoran Wave 3 Hydro generator has a rated maximum speed of 12 knots for the 3GS model and 20 knots for the 3GD model. When operated at speeds higher than the rated maximum, an overvoltage situation can occur with possible damage to the charger.
If your boat is capable of sailing close to the maximum speed, there is a risk of the speed exceeding the rated maximum.
The Remoran PR-01 Protection Relay automatically protects the Remoran charger from the generator (outboard unit) overvoltage. The PR-01 temporarily disconnects charging preventing the overvoltage from damaging the charger. The PR-01 receives the electrical energy needed for operation from the three-phase generator voltage and is therefore ready for operation as soon as the generator begins to generate voltage (the boat is moving). The PR-01 measures the generator voltage level and, if necessary, disconnects the connection between the outboard unit and the charger, thus protecting the charger from overvoltage. When the speed of the boat decreases and the generator voltage drops, the PR-01 restores the electrical connection between the generator and the charger and the charging function resumes.
