Seldén Gennaker Bowsprit Kit
The Seldén Bowsprit Kit offers a quick and easy method of adding an extendable bowsprit to almost any boat. The deck mounted bowsprit is perfect for use with a Gennaker as it extends the tack attachment point beyond the jib and into clean air for better performance. For gybing, the bowsprit keeps the Gennaker away from the forestay and facilitates the manoeuvre. For smaller boats the bowsprit can also be used with a Code Zero.
The bowsprit requires a bow bracket which is not included in the kit.
The 2 included padeyes are positioned forward and aft in line with the bow bracket. When not in use, the bowsprit is locked on to the aft padeye in the retracted position, keeping it away from the anchor, chain and mooring lines. When required the bowsprit is pushed forward through the low friction deck ring to the extended position and locked on to the forward padeye. The Gennaker can then be hoisted and is ready to use. The tack attachment line runs through the bowsprit and can be led aft to the cockpit or secured near the bow. Alternatively, the tack attachment line can be routed through a block or low friction snap shackle for a 2:1 tackle for easier adjustment. The bowsprit forward end fitting features well rounded surfaces to avoid chafe on the tack line. The inboard fitting has a built-in spring-loaded plunger lock for quick attachment to the forward and aft padeyes for securing in the extended or retracted positions. The bowsprit can also be easily removed altogether for longer term storage.
Bow brackets are available in four models to suit most boat types.
